Good listen and funny. Hope to hear more of Deathwatch. Last two minutes reminded me of listening to the radio late at night and definitely using that as a measure. Loved it. Definitely interested in Rogue Trader now.

Thanks for the support! I think Mike and John are interested in the RPG (sans mechs in some cases), so maybe we can get another game going. More positive feedback definitely bumps things up the list.

Am a big fan of battletech and would love to see you continue with this series. I agree that the combat could be a problem but think you could maybe split it and do one rp session and then one combat. Also think that when you include the rules for heat and critical hits you should find the combat going quicker.

Loving the Dark Sun, guys! You could make a greater effort to be focused rather than go off on tangents. But your passion for the game is exceptional!

Yeah, it's a bit "rules light" and gets better. Trust me. We are still a bit fast and loose with the rules to keep it moving when we aren't sure.

Thanks for listening and I hope the lack of rules doesn't bother you too much. I know it bothers some folks when podcasts don't use all the rules.

FYI the players forget to use squad mode A LOT!

I really enjoyed the game you played I will listen to the other podcast of the series when I can. The group as a whole was very entertaining. I laughed plenty of times with the entire group. Thanks to all of you for being entertaining.

I am assuming this was the free adventure that came out just before the complete rules came out for deathwatch (or something like that). I noticed Squad and Solo mode tactics was not used nor was a team leader chosen, let alone the inclusion of Requisition points. So, I am assuming these rules would not be used during this game.

1st) thanks for the shout out
2nd) Ian M., you're my favorite, too. Completely gay.
3rd) Please make the bard a recurring character - he's an instant classic. His songs of encouragement rank up there with the funniest moments I've ever heard on a D&D podcast.

Great stuff.

Episode 1 of three is up but having listened to 2 of 3 here on the website I noticed that what seems like half of ep 1 is missing. It cuts off right when the "i'll flip you for it" results are read. Ep 2 begins after the mansion. And as before, so far I only see part 1 on itunes. I can stream it from here but pt 1 is halved and your itunes listeners may be confused. Thanks for keeping up, love the show

Hey Maniac . . . um the best place to post a question is www.nerdbound.com/forum. There are plenty of helpful folks there. However, I'll try to answer what I can here. There aren't any demos online that I know of. The best way to learn is just jump in. I actually think Play-by-Post games are a good way to learn because you can take your time and learn the system without holding anyone up. If you are interested, I'm trying to start a ToC game on the forum. Sign up and I'll get something going.

Other than that, listening to actual play games can help. We have another ToC game up as well that you may want to check out. It was awesome. Episode 34 - Kidnapping.

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I really enjoyed listening to this. I have the books for ToC but no real grasp on how to play (complete noob for games like this) where would I be able to go to learn, not necessarily a hands-on thing but an online demo or something.

Glad to hear you won't be moving away from New World - it's a hilarious listen. I'm quite glad to hear Dark Sun as well. I limit my actual play listening to D&D, so the others are usually skipped by me, but more power to you.

It's only been two episodes! Unless you meant a long break since we played based on our comments in the Dark Sun episodes. We had scheduling issues, but don't fret. I have at least 7 or 8 episodes of New World in the queue. I always try to have a backlog. I'm planning on releasing New World next as a 4 episode arc, then a listener Deathwatch game (Wahammer 40K), then probably New World again, and finally back to Dark Sun for an arc.

We're getting some good play between all the games and I hope to keep the diversity going. Another Deathwatch game will hopefully be recorded this month as well. Yeah!

Bill,

Thanks for the feedback and I'm glad you enjoyed it! I do take GMing seriously and really appreciate constructive feedback. Anything that helps me make the games better for my players and for the listeners is always great. I know I can always improve and always want to.

I'll make sure that next time I run the scenario that I pay particular attention to your thoughtful comments above. The specific feedback on keeping things moving and creating tension/terror will help for a re-run (and more broadly for just about any horror game). When I have some time to revisit it, I'll give the scenario some more thought on specific feedback. Overall, I loved the scenario. It's a bit long for a one-shot, so I had trouble condensing it. Two sessions would have been better. The time fugue was definitely challenging and took a while in game. Breaking is up is a great idea. I also need to incorporate knowledge from the other "PCs" that aren't being played. They get a little lost in the shuffle once the game is going.

I look forward to running this again. I also noticed you have a new scenario in the works. Sounds really great by the short description. Keep up the good work and I'll keep buying them, running them, and posting them.

This is awesome! As the guy who wrote "Castle Bravo", I am very pleased to be able to listen to folks run through the adventure. Neil, you did a fabulous job of keeping events moving and wrangling your players through a complicated scenario with a lot of moving parts. It also helps me to hear where the adventure-as-written is weak; for example, the temporal fugue scene with the scroll doesn't hold up as well as I'd thought it did. The next time I run CB, I'll spread that fugue out over several interludes, and have the player interact with a quasi-AI hologram with Nevil Kingston-Brown's personality: think Max Headroom meets Steve Irwin. "C-c-c-crikey!" But maybe that's too silly.

I'm glad you plan to run it again with new players; that'll be fun. The one thing I will suggest to make it run tighter for you is to be more proactive about clue delivery; e.g., when they're all standing on deck waiting for Shot Bravo, have Bodine give them his potted history of the Bairoko. When they've got Sawyer locked up in the brig and *ask if he's said anything* or *try to psychoanalyze him*, have him be talking to his father or complaining about how his mother threw him out or talking about physics. I would also play Sawyer as initially more scared and freaked out than you had him, only gradually coming to accept his place at the center of things.

Additionally, I would foreground Sawyer's abilities and use them to freak players out. When Juan playing Harvard tried to shoot Sawyer, that's exactly what you want. *Say the shot hits, and have Sawyer be killed.* Then when he shows up in the next scene ("Help me get this man to sickbay!") call for Stability tests. Have him demonstrate his weirdness fully before having him offer his explanations to the players--they should want to hear Sawyer explain himself.

By the end of the adventure, you were doing a great job cutting back and forth between the action in the engine room and the action on the bridge. But I think it hurt the drama when you let Zengetti literally send the other characters to the showers in a single "move" during the fallout scene earlier in the game. TOC is not great for tactical action, but the movement rules included in CB might have helped you control the pace of events there--the point is to have the characters who begin the scene on the flight deck confronted with the dilemma of helping out their shipmates (and maybe following orders too) or saving their own skins. Even if you don't use the movement rules, I think it's okay to go "Okay, you're ordering people to go below and head for the showers--wait a minute, those guys over there don't hear you! And that guy is flopping around a fish! And another guy grabs Walton and makes clicking noises! And Harvard just went to la-la land! And--holy cow!--that guy is running for the edge of the flight deck! It looks like he's going to jump! WHAT DO YOU DO?" In other words: throw all that stuff at them at once, giving them a sense of chaos, imminent danger, and the urgent need for action. Then let them react. At that point, they can do what they want--all you care about really is measuring their Dose round by round based on what they do. You can use their Drives to overcome their sense of self-preservation if you want, offering them a point or two of Stability to go out on deck and pull someone to safety.

Those are just suggestions, of course, but they're offered in the spirit of providing constructive feedback to someone who seems like he takes the craft of GMing seriously. And I don't mean to take anything away from the great job you did of getting your players from beginning to end of the scenario in a cool way. Thanks for running the game, and thanks for posting the AP podcast! Also, I'd love to hear any comments or feedback you have about the adventure!

I was dying when I listened to this episode. I loved the drunken Empyron. Showing up to a session completely slobbering drunk sometimes shakes up a campaign for the better. Great work. I was laughing the entire episode.

DM Neil needs to rescind his two drink maximum. It was great. I would gladly listen to each and every episode that Ian shows up drunk to. Ian, you need to sacrifice your liver for the good of the game.

wow, excellent battle maps! Thanks for the detail - and now I understand the battle much better. Well done in the battle and with the map.

Advice: drink more before you record. Always a good idea regardless of what DM Neil says. I think he just gets jealous when people steal his thunder.

I must say that this paladin is considerably more useful than the recently-expired dragon cleric. Now if only you could convince Jose to play an unaligned character; he could be the perfect warrior.

skipp'n and flute'n - a hero's departure if ever there were one.

The Dragonborn seems somewhat of a priss. I sure do hope so.

When did Ian turn into Jose? "I don't wanna fight...." Then he ran away like a little girl. I'll bet Alexander is teaching Empyron interpretive dance as we speak and maybe afterward they'll share their feelings.

understood. I don't know how it might have affected play at the table. As a listener, I just imagined his character was drunk as well - completely possible with all that delicious Goblin brew around. Characters have vices as well.

Trust me buddhafrog, if you'd have been there, you would have noticed the difference. However, that leads me to believe we need a drunken D&D session that doesn't have lasting effects on the game world. Something tells me listeners would be amused.

this might have been the funniest podcast to date. Empyron is a rpg legend. DMNeil kept suggesting a two drink maximum, but I suggest a two drink minimum. Keep up the good work.

Now that Empyron has the battle axe, I hope you do something funny with it.

If it helps, the next Trail of Cthulhu game will be posted after this arc of the New World Campaign finishes up. Huzzah! I still feel like I need to defend Ross' GMing here (not that he needs it, check out RPPR's games and you can see for yourself). This scenario was a lot different than most of his games and may have been a bit rushed. I guess Scott Glancy sent him like 40 pages of materials the night before, which he tried to incorporate. I'll try to get him to run another game and see if he can win back your hearts and minds! Anyway, thanks for listening. I plan on running a ToC game for the NerdBound crew soon, so you'll get to hear them in action.

"Lets see here... tu tu tu tooo" - that was really painful and couldn't finish. Keeper is horribly unprepared, no role-playing at all (blocks of text, what??? Isn't better to roleplay gaining those informations with NPCs, who are painfully boring anyway), Keeper runs this entire scenario for himself and railroad whole the time giving idea rolls all the time. Why he even needs players? Sorry but I couldn't be bothered and would quit after famous "blocks of text".

It's a shame, cause Trail of Cthulhu game was brilliant and I really enjoyed it. I want more ToC with the other Game Master! Shooting baby was classic! Please, show this Delta Green guy how things should be done.

Well to be fair, I was using a published scenario. Ross usually runs really good games. This one was admittedly a bit combat heavy for a Cthulhu game (for me). It seemed like he was integrating a lot of last minute stuff too. That was the biggest issue. It went well and I liked the outcome. Even if you can't hear me. Ugh. Computers.

Well Ms. Walker I would be more than happy to have a girl on the show. It's not going to be a regular occurrence at least for D&D as we don't have any girls willing to play. Trust me, I've tried to get girlfriends/fiancees to play. It ain't gonna happen. You are more than welcome to play in our one-shots. The next one you are available for, I'll reserve you a spot. We have Karee from RPPR fame in the Trail of Cthulhu game coming up. That will be pretty cool.

As far as prizes, I agree I need more contests. The conglomerate name is slow going. I have to do diligence to see if it is usable. I will award a prize shortly for the name I like the best regardless of the ability to actually use it. Also, why isn't this a forum thread?

No problem. I'll let you know if I can get an actual play session organized. I think the game looks fun. Nice work by the way. If you release more stuff, let me know and I'll try to get the word out.

Sorry for it being a bit unconventional. I tend to just run them on the fly.

You know, to increase ratings, you could...have a girl appear on the show. Guys dig gamer chicks. (I'm not necessarily suggesting me; I'm sure the group has a girlfriend/fiancee or two they could call on.) Or give away more prizes--what of that contest to name the media conglomerate?

Also, welcome back Alexander. Farewell Trym (spoiler), and hello Mikael. (Spelling? Where's Wave when I need it...)

You guys have me spoiled. Your podcasts are always tight, everybody knows what's going on and Neil is always prepared. Ross on the other hand.... I don't usually listen to the podcasts from RPPR so I don't know if this is indicative of their podcasts normally but I couldn't finish it. Neil's Cthulu game on the other hand was great.

WHAT?! D&D and no Jose to be found. This is outrageous! It's like peanut butter without jelly, toast without the butter, internet without porn...ummm, I digress. Another great episode even if you wouldn't let Jose play

Hi, I just wanted you guys to know that I listened to Part 1 of 3 and enjoyed it. The game seemed like a lot of fun, and good RPing seemed to be taking place all around. I disagree with the idea of addressing the microphone as being bad. I would like to see that done more often, personally. Some real play audio games (I won't mention names this time) loose the audience with nodding of head communication and 'it looks like this' visual props that we never see. Even in this game, which was good, there were still sections, mostly during the firefights, when I had a hard time following or just got lost. Punching up the volume in the MP3 file helps some since not everyone listening is using powerful speakers, but the best method for keeping a game accessible to the audience is remembering that the audience is there. The Trail of Cthulhu: Kidnapping game is a good example of a game that makes great audio, because the gamers were relying primarily on audio themselves during a Skype session. Listen and compare these two audio files sometime, and you will hear what I mean.

This is why I love spells like Storm Pillar, Phantom Bolt, Wall of Fire, and Orbmaster's Incendiary Detonation. You get the most bang for your buck as far as controllers go. (For some reason, this seems to end up a lot like WoW; for optimal damage, you should spec as a fire wizard; for control, you spec as a frost wizard.)

Unfortunately not one of my favorites so far. The mechanics seem kind of clunky for the game. Didn't care for the combat portion. The roll playing portions were well done. Ian M really shines in these moments. Neil was funny too, especially playing the mobster guy at the bar. "You look like a coat rack that fucked a washing machine." Great stuff

The roll playing portions were well done. Ian M really shines in these moments. Neil was funny too, especially playing the mobster guy at the bar. “You look like a coat rack that fucked a washing machine.” Great stuff

Hey guys. I just posted this to the Cult of ORE google group - it focuses on all ORE games although most of the discussions revolve around WT and Godlike rules questions.

Another great episode.... Ladies.

Since this is turning into the podcast of bad movie quotes with some D&D sprinkled in maybe you guys can do an episode where every verbal exchange includes a movie quote. My wife and I talk in movie quotes and it's gotten so bad that now our daughter is doing it. It's great!

I highly recommend this show! As a D&D gamer for over 25 years I can honestly say that the stuff that goes on in this show will whet your appetite for more and bring back some of that nostalgia some of us used to feel in our weekly gaming sessions.

Thumbs up!

Great show as always! I listen to many actual play D&D 4E podcasts and I will say that you guys are my favorite. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with Icosahedrophilia, or the RPPR, or Critical Hit, or any of the others I listen to but your group just seems to crack me up the most and are always the ones I look forward to the most for sure.

Glad to see you continuing on with the fight and we as listeners sure appreciate your efforts!

Btw I am glad to see the new site and look forward to interacting with you all on the new forums. :)
